When you’re heading to one of Europe’s toughest Mountain Bike races, preparation starts long before you hit the trails. Packing bikes, all the gear and essentials can be just as challenging as the race itself – and if you’re driving across borders and roughing it in your van for the duration of the trip, then the right van conversion setup with smart bike storage and a proper sleeping solution is crucial for a smooth and steady trip.
That’s exactly what Team BikeStow discovered when we loaded up our trusty Ford Tourneo Custom for our long trip to Andorra Epic. It took us just 10 minutes (yes, we timed it) to fit the Original Three, 2 Modules (1 x 800mm & 1 x 950mm) and Slide-Out Tray onto a good non-slip mat – giving us the flexibility to move things around if and when we needed to. The entire process was quick, easy and completely stress-free, making this the most seamless set up we’ve ever had!
On the long drive down to the Pyrenees, the benefits of our setup were made clear to us in a short amount of time. The Original Three kept the heavy Mountain Bikes rock solid and upright, even with twisting and bumpy roads. The Slide-Out Tray became our go-to snack station, giving us access to reach back and grab something sweet through the side cupboard, and the Bed Module provided a reliable place to rest whenever we needed to stop and recharge.
We arrived in Andorra cool and collected after a long but comfortable 20-hour drive, thanks to our efficient BikeStow setup. Over the next four days, we were all put to the test… Each stage brought a new challenge: gruelling high mountain climbs, fast descents through dense forests and the relentless sun beating down on us. With only one minor injury, I think we did well!
After each long and hard day, returning to the van was a relief – it took seconds to store the bikes in the Original Three, the Slide-Out Tray was the perfect space to use our handy camping kettle for a much needed chicken and mushroom pot noodle and the Bed Module was ready and waiting to provide an uninterrupted and comfortable night of sleep.
By the time the week came to an end, we realised just how much difference the right setup had made. From the 20-hour drive to the four days of racing, our Bed Module and Original Three kept everything organised and secure – and the best part was that it all felt very easy.
